Joint maritime exercise a milestone – envoy
MANILA, Philippines — The Japan Coast Guard (JCG), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the US Coast Guard (USCG) conducted their first-ever joint maritime search and rescue (SAREX) in Japan on Friday, a milestone in regional cooperation, according to Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya.
“Japan JCG Asanagi, Philippines Teresa Magbanua & US USCG Stratton launched the 1st-ever maritime SAREX in Japan. The exercise affirmed shared values, operational alignment & collective commitment to maritime stability,” Endo wrote on X.
The exercise tackled effective procedures for responding to maritime emergencies and demonstrated smooth coordination among the three countries’ coast guards.
The Japanese embassy in Manila said Japan will continue to strengthen the cooperation and coordination framework among the three coast guards and deepen efforts to realize a “free and open Indo-Pacific” through various exercises and other initiatives.
