MANILA, Philippines — Filipinos in Sudan are advised to leave that country immediately to ensure their safety as the United Nations warned that the country is on the brink of a “full-scale civil war,” potentially destabilizing the entire region.

“The Philippine embassy in Cairo strongly reiterates its call to all Filipinos in Sudan to leave the country immediately to ensure their safety,” the embassy said in its advisory.

The Philippine government also reiterated that it continues to assist Filipinos who wish to evacuate Sudan.

Filipinos who wish to return to the Philippines are advised to provide the embassy their full name, contact number and copy of passport. They are also advised to report to the embassy if they are in possession of a valid passport or not and state the reason for not having their passport.

In evacuating through Egypt/Aswan, Filipinos who choose to proceed to Egypt should comply with the standing order of applying entry visas in advance.

Applicants should apply for entry visas at the Egyptian Consulate in Wadi Halfa, and comply with Egypt’s regulations and requirements on visa application.

Filipinos who choose to evacuate through Port Sudan should inform the embassy in advance.

Those who decide to stay in Sudan are asked to provide the embassy of their full name, contact details, location in Sudan, name and contact details of emergency contact (s) in the Philippines and be in possession of their valid passport.

Filipinos are advised to contact the embassy in Cairo which has jurisdiction over Sudan through WhatsApp/Mobile: (+20) 122 743 6472, Facebook/Messenger: PHinEgypt or email: [email protected]
