Signal No. 3 up in 10 areas as 'Rosita' makes landfall

MANILA, Philippines (Updated 10:20 a.m.) — State weather bureau PAGASA has raised Signal No. 3 in 10 areas as Typhoon Rosita makes landfall in Dinapigue, Isabela early Tuesday.

At 7 a.m., the typhoon was located in the vicinity of Echague, Isabela and is heading towards Ifugao province.

Rosita packs maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center of gusts of up to 230 kph. It is forecasted to move west at 25 kph.

Tropical cyclone warning signals have been hoisted in the following areas:

Signal No. 3 (Winds of 121 to 170 kph is expected in at least 18 hours)

  • La Union

  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Pangasinan

Signal No. 2 (Winds of 61 to120 kph is expected in 24 hours)

  • Southern Aurora
  • Bulacan
  • Cagayan
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Kalinga
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Pampanga
  • Polillo Island
  • Northern Quezon 
  • Tarlac
  • Zambales

Signal No. 1 (Winds of 30 to 60 kph is expected in 36 hours)

  • Babuyan group of Islands
  • Bataan 
  • Batangas
  • Cavite
  • Laguna
  • Metro Manila
  • Rizal

The typhoon is forecasted to traverse over Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Benguet and La Union. It expected to exit Philippine area of responsibility by Wednesday evening.

PAGASA warned that travel by land would be reisky in areas under Signal No. 3 and 2.

Storm surge of up to 3 meters is also possible over the coastal areas of Isabela, Cagayan, Aurora, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, La Union and Pangasinan.

Northern and Central Luzon will experience moderate to heavy rains brought about by the typhoon.

"Residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying areas and mountainous areas, are advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslides, coordinate with the local disaster risk reduction and management offices," PAGASA said.

Typhoon Yutu which is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday morning, October 27, and will be named "Rosita" has slightly weakened.

As of 10 a.m., its eye was located at 1,955 km east of northern Luzon. It packs maximum sustained winds of 180 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 220 kph.

PAGASA senior weather specialist Chris Perez says good weather is expected for the next three days.

"Patuloy nga ang mainit at maalinsangang panahon. Improving weather sa Metro Manila bukas araw ng Undas hanggang sa Friday," he says.

He adds that no new tropical cyclone is seen entering PAR within the three-day outlook.

Severe Tropical Storm Rosita has slightly weakened as it remains almost stationary over the West Philippine Sea, PAGASA says in its 5 a.m. severe weather bulletin.

"Rosita" is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility this afternoon.

All tropical cyclone warning signals has also been lifted.

'Rosita' has weakened into a severe tropical storm as it continues moving towards the West Philippine Sea, PAGASA says in its 8 p.m. Sever Weather Bulletin.

PAGASA says that as of 7 p.m. on Tuesday, the center of Rosita was 145 km northwest of Dagupan City, Pangasinan. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 110 kph and gustiness of up to 135 kph.

It is moving west at 30 kph.

At 1 p.m., Rosita was located in the vicinity of Sablan, Benguet and is heading towards La Union. It will traverse over Benguet, La Union and Pangasinan.

At 10 a.m., #RositaPH was located in the vicinity of Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya. It will traverse over Benguet, La Union and Pangasinan.
