Employers told: Mitigate heat exhaustion in workplace
MANILA, Philippines - As hot temperatures persist in the country, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) yesterday reminded employers to adopt measures to protect workers from heat exhaustion.
The DOLE’s Bureau of Working Condition said employers must assess the risks of workers’ exposure to heat and determine adjustment in work schedules.
The bureau said employers and commercial establishments should provide free drinking water for workers to reduce heat stress.
Workers should be aware on how to address symptoms of heat stroke at the workplace.
The DOLE stressed the need for workers and employers to agree on flexible work schedules to prevent exposure to high temperatures.
If needed, employers may also provide shade structures, health insulators and ventilation at workplaces.
The DOLE has issued heat prevention guidelines to protect workers, particularly those in construction, fishing and other jobs that expose workers to extreme heat for a long period of time.
