MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED 1:01 p.m.) — Incoming President Rodrigo "Rody" Duterte met with outgoing President Benigno Aquino III at the Malacañang Palace on Thursday morning prior to the former's inaugural ceremony.

Aquino received Duterte, his last visitor at the President's Hall in Malacañang as the country's top government official.

Duterte and Aquino descended the grand staircase of the Palace together as the outgoing president would be given departure honors.

The meeting was the first for the two leaders since Duterte was elected on May 9. They have before talked over the phone following Duterte's victory in May.

Aquino, meanwhile, returned to his family's ancestral home on Times Street in Quezon City where a thanksgiving and welcoming party was mounted for him. — Video edited by Efigenio Toledo IV courtesy of RTVM
