MANILA, Philippines — Recently, stars like Anne Curtis-Smith and Catriona Gray have been hot topics on social media for being allegedly body-shamed.

Anne was recently described by netizens as “looking pregnant” in a family photo posted by Solenn Heussaff, while a netizen challenged Catriona to reveal her waistline and vital statistics.

As response, Anne said: “No. I’m not pregnant. It’s just the angle. And also all the egg tarts I ate.”

Solenn also came to Anne’s defense, saying: “Even if you (are) saying cute things, (it’s) really a bad habit to (always) comment about people's weight. (It’s) always done in the Philippines by our (titas) and friends and has become (like) a ‘Hello’ in our society. (It’s) really not nice and not (proper). (Whether it’s) gaining or losing weight, people should stop. Really.”

Meanwhile, in an Instagram post by @titasofpageantry, a netizen asked: “May we know po anong vital stats ni Kat? Ba’t parang hindi klaro parati ang waist nya? Or sadyang she has an elaborate rib cage?”

The country’s representative to Miss Universe 2018 then replied: “What number would be good for you? What number constitutes my worth, or a ‘perfect’ figure? I hope you would see women as individuals whose worth are defined by what they do and who they are, not by numbers on a tape.”

As a singer, actress, and TV host, KC Concepcion is no stranger to body-shaming as she and mom Sharon Cuneta have been subjects of public scrutiny through the years.

Recently, KC has also been reportedly body-shamed when she posted selfies on Instagram. Some netizens commented on her photos and called her “easy to get” and “feeling sexy.”

During a recent beauty fair organized by e-commerce platform Shopee, KC shared in a speech how being healthy is as important as being true to oneself.

“My message for body-shamers is to know exactly what you’re fighting for first of all kasi merong mga health issues ang mga tao kaya ganun ang mga katawan nila,” KC said in a video interview by Philstar.com.

According to KC, weight loss is not as easy as dieting.

“Kahit gusto nilang pumayat at hindi pumapayag ang katawan nila, they have to break the code. Kailangan alam nila kung anong nangyayari sa hormones, kung anong nangyayari sa stress factor, kung bakit kahit anong diet, anong exercise, hindi nagwowork,” KC explained.

Being slim, she said, is also not always an indication of good health.

“The same goes sa mga people na sobrang payat. Meron silang reason kung bakit sila umaabot sa ganun. So sana, ‘wag silang manghusga masyado.”

Instead of poking fun at people’s weight, KC wishes people would celebrate anyone who is happy and healthy with their bodies.

Nonetheless, she still believes in the importance of maintaining one’s ideal weight through a healthy lifestyle.

“Although agree ako na everyone should be at their happiest and healthiest body. Kasi hindi rin ako agree na okay lang din na masyadong mataba or masyadong payat,” she stressed.

As a final word to body-shamers, KC advised them to base their criticisms on scientific facts.

“Agree naman ako dun sa ilang may mga pinaglalaban, pero siguro yung way lang na kung pano kayo manghusga minsan, baka hindi s’ya medically accurate. So unless doctor ‘yung nagsabi sainyo, best to really know kung anong pinag-dadaanan ng isang tao.” — Video by Kat Leandicho
