Why 2012 looks promising to me

FULLY LOADED - Mikael Daez -

January One. It may be just another day out of the other 364 in a year but to most of us, it is much more than that. The start of a new year can mean a lot in many different ways. It could be the start of something new as we try to forget a year that may not have been that good to us. On the other hand, it could be the end of a year that you would have wanted to last a little bit longer. For others, it could be a bit more trivial. You might be looking for your New Year’s kiss, a party worth remembering or that once-a-year dinner with all of your relatives. Regardless of what Jan. 1 may mean to you, it is a significant enough day for all of us to talk about and anticipate.

As I think about what the new year means to me, I think about all the good and bad that happened during the year 2011. As I look back, random events on a personal, national and global level come to mind. However, even if it may seem like there were so many unfortunate events (global recession, Euro crisis, natural disasters, tragic accidents) that occurred, I can’t help but be grateful for the previous year. Honestly, even if nothing good happened in 2011, I would still look for a way to be thankful. Thing is, it does not matter how many desirable or undesirable events happened to you in the previous year because the fact that you made it through is enough to be happy about. It means that you survived one whole year and as a prize, you have a brand new year to look forward to and strive to be successful in.

Another thing I consciously try to do is to cherish the moments that made the year great. I am sure that everyone has at least a couple of memorable moments. We should be glad we had them but should never allow ourselves to dwell in them. There’s a big difference between cherishing and getting stuck in the past. Some people want to recreate memories in the past but that will get you nowhere very quickly. Be happy and thankful that you had such great moments then let go of them and move on. Look to the future and look to make new memorable moments.

One other part of the new year that gets everybody hyped up is when we have to make our resolutions. Everyone has his own resolutions but we all know it isn’t very easy thinking of good ones so instead of coming up with the usual, I want to take a look back at my 2011 and see what I can do for 2012:

I entered the television and movie industry and was able to play a part in amazing projects — World Premiere, Spooky Nights: Bampirella, Temptation Island and Amaya. Family-wise, my cousins and I entered the Ateneo Basketball League and won the championship. At the same time, I feel a lot closer to my relatives (and I have a lot!) even as we all start to grow into our own lives. Overall, I can’t help but be endlessly thankful to everyone who has been a part of my 2011. Through the happy and tough times, I’m just glad I got through the year in one piece.

Looking forward to 2012: This will be my sophomore year working. I want to get better in what I do, be it hosting, acting, writing or whatnot. I have a new television show titled, My Beloved, coming out on GMA. I started a blog that I enjoy updating. Last and definitely not least, I have an army of relatives, friends and co-workers who are going to help make my memories for the next 365 days. 2012 looks really promising and I’m hoping that I can improve in every way possible.

To everyone: I wish you all a Happy New Year and that we all make the most of this opportunity to make some awesome memories over the next 12 months.
