Susan Roces wishes for GMA's fast recovery

DIRECT LINE - Boy Abunda -

The well-loved movie queen, Susan Roces, was candid to admit that she, too, is going through a similar degenerative disease that is attacking former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. “Ang sakit ni GMA ay sakit ko rin. Degenerative. It’s part of aging. Ang kanya dito sa leeg. Ang sa akin, fourth and fifth vertebra, that’s why I have to wear a brace.”

Because of her ailment, Tita Susan is extra careful of her movements. “May mga kilos na maselan na hindi ko dapat gawin. Di ako dapat magbuhat ng mabigat.”

She said that she chose not to have an operation. “Di ko na pinagalaw kasi maselan nga. I cannot do very strenuous exercise. Mga jumping, jogging mga masyadong mahabang walk.” Susan wishes GMA all the best. “I wish she will get well very soon.” Does she pray for her recovery? “Lagi naman,” she said.

It is likely that Tita Susan will be seen again on television when she appears in the teleserye, 100 Days To Heaven.

Magnanimity and courage are virtues that set apart the great Susan Roces from the rest of us.

Melai denies pregnancy rumor

Rumors about Melai Cantiveros (photo) infanticipating spread like wildfire on Twitter. To stop the rumor from further spreading Melai came out in the open to set the record straight. “Hindi totoo yon. Hindi ako buntis. Saka magagalit ang pamilya ko sa Gensan. Kasi sobra kong daming pamilyang tinutulungan. Hindi ako mag buntis. Hindi pwede.”

Melai also said that there is a right time for getting pregnant. “Pag na-settle na yong pamilya ko. Yong mga kapatid nakatapos na ng pag-aaral, nagawa ko na yon para sa kanila.”

The pregnant rumor mill did not also spare Korina Sanchez. Korina said that getting pregnant is something that she and her husband Mar Roxas are taking seriously. The rumor also started on Twitter. “Mabuti pa sa Twitter buntis ako. Sa totoong buhay hindi pa. Kagagawan yan ni Senador Ping Lacson. Napagtripan yata si Mar sa kanyang confirmation. Sinasabi ko naman sa inyo seryosong project yan ngayon. We are consulting doctors. Malay niyo talagang this year or next year.”

The rumor mill will always be pregnant with phantasmagorical phantoms. Beware and be careful.

Family comes first for Albert

Alfonso and Alyssa Martinez shared their thoughts on how Albert Martinez (photo) is as a father. Award winning and one of the most respected actors in the industry, Albert has one of the most enduring marriages in showbiz. He has put his family on steady ground while maintaining a flourishing showbiz career. “It’s hard to live up to the things he has done. But I use that to strive to be someone like him. My dad is not really super malambing but he really spoils my mom. And he really, really loves her. Maybe he cannot always take the family out but I know that he loves her so much,” said Alfonso.

Alyssa said that her parents have been through a lot. “But my dad is really strong even if everyone around him is already panicking. When my mom got sick, noong una we were like ‘Oh my goodness, why my mom?’ Siempre, you cannot do anything but to face it and treat every day like it’s the last.”

Alfonso added that it has not been easy for the family when his mom got sick. “It’s been hard and heavy for the family. But I guess it helps us grow together.”

“And he always tells us to spend time with Mama,” Alyssa enthused.

Time, I have learned the hard way is the best gift we can give our loved ones.

Rainbow Run

The Partylist for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) Filipinos, Ladlad, is holding a fun-run dubbed Rainbow Run on Oct. 29 at Venice Piazza, Mckinley Hill in Taguig City.

“We are inviting everyone to come in their most creative ensembles and freely express themselves regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity,” said Ladlad chairperson Bemz Benedito.

Benedito also stressed that the Rainbow Run is not solely for the LGBTs but also for heterosexual supporters as well who have open minds and open hearts for the LGBT sector. “Everyone is welcome to run with us as long as you believe that all of us are equal,” Benedito said.

Asked why it’s called Rainbow Run, Benedito said, “Rainbow Run because the colors symbolize diversity and inclusiveness. It is also a sign of hope and yearning that can lead to a solidified community through running.”

“We run for one cause and one direction. If LGBTs are united in one goal, we can easily surpass all trials hounding our community. Please support Rainbow Run and help us fight for equal rights and opportunities and take us to the final lane where we can attain acceptance and harmony without the fear of stigma and prejudice for our sector,” Benedito stressed.

The Rainbow Run participants can choose to run for 3K, 5K or 10K routes. For details, visit Error! Hyperlink reference not valid..
