The story of a drop-dead diva

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - From Emmy nominees Josh Berman (Bones, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) and Neil Meron and Craig Zadan (Chicago, Hairspray, A Raisin in the Sun) comes Drop Dead Diva.

The show tells the story of a beautiful-but-vapid model wannabe Deb. She figures in a fatal car accident and wakes up to find herself accidentally relegated to the body of recently deceased Jane Bingum, a brilliant plus-sized attorney (Brooke Elliot.)

Now, Deb, who has always relied on her looks, must come to terms with being Jane, who has always lived in the shadow of her more comely colleagues. Can Deb learn to reconcile her diva/beauty queen ways with her newfound brilliant mind?

“I love the writing,” says stand-up comic and actress Margaret Cho, who plays Jane’s loyal assistant Terrie. “I love that the lead in the story is a beautiful, very real-looking, very interesting person played by Brooke Eliot. Jane, as played by Brooke, is charismatic, wonderful and different.”

Since its US debut on Lifetime, Drop Dead Diva has been a Top 3 series across key demographics and has placed No. 1 on its timeslot for women 25 to 54.

The series, which New York Times praised for its humor and charm, also stars Jackson Hurst as Grayson Kent, Deb’s fiancé who is still mourning her, unaware he now works with her as Jane; and April Bowlby as Stacy Barnett, Deb’s best friend, also a model wannabe, who learns the truth about Deb’s new life. Stacy then alternates from hoping to get Jane to lose weight to, as she confessed to Jane, fearing that her now smarter best friend will leave her behind.

Another show on Q-11 is Legend Of Wonder Girls which airs Saturdays, 4 p.m. It features the story of phenomenal Korean girl group Wonder Girls — from its debut up to the present. Wonder Girls’ hits include Tell Me, So Hot and the catchy Nobody.
