Galaxy Manila Marathon returns bigger than ever with historic EDSA route

MANILA, Philippines — EDSA will take center stage at the Galaxy Manila Marathon 2026 as the country's most iconic thoroughfare transforms into the backdrop for what is expected to be a landmark moment in Philippine road racing and sports tourism.
Runrio, in partnership with SM Supermalls, has unveiled plans for the highly anticipated event, set for June 12 and 13.
The race will feature a historic route along EDSA, taking runners on a journey from SM Mall of Asia to SM North EDSA, offering a one-of-a-kind urban marathon experience through the heart of Metro Manila.
“This year's Galaxy Manila Marathon is a great source of pride for all of us. Not only does it coincide with Independence Day, but it also takes place on EDSA—one of the most significant roads in our nation's history,” Runrio President and CEO Rio de la Cruz, said.
The event serves as the cornerstone of a broader collaboration among corporate partners, sports leaders and government agencies aimed at strengthening the country's position as a premier destination for running and sports tourism.
By transforming EDSA into a world-class racecourse, organizers hope to attract both local and international runners while showcasing Metro Manila as a vibrant host city for major sporting events.
“This is more than just a race, it's an opportunity to showcase the Philippines to the world through sports,” added de la Cruz. “We want runners from across the globe to experience our roads, our culture and our communities while discovering the warmth and energy that make the Philippines unique.”

The initiative also aligns with SM Supermalls' commitment to creating accessible, community-centered experiences that promote wellness, active lifestyles, and tourism.
“By hosting races across our locations nationwide, we are helping bring communities together while supporting local economies through sports-driven travel,” said SM Supermalls President Steven Tan.
The Galaxy Manila Marathon 2026 is backed by Samsung as title sponsor, bringing innovation and technology to enhance the overall runner experience.
The event is further supported by the Department of Tourism, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, and the Philippine Sports Commission, alongside key partners ASICS, Gatorade and Singlife Philippines.
Together, these organizations share a vision of elevating Philippine road racing to global standards and positioning the country as a premier destination for world-class marathon events.
