CEBU, Philippines - The police chief of Dumanjug Police Station, who was patrolling around the town’s cemeteries, accidentally hit a “drunk” man past 8 p.m. Saturday night in Barangay Kanyuko, Dumanjug town.

Police Officer 2 Ronilo Querante, desk officer of Dumajug Police Station, identified the injured man as Pablo Baybayanon, 55, of Barangay Kanyuko, Dumanjug.

Querante said that past 8 p.m. on Saturday night, Dumanjug Police Station chief Senior Inspector Arvi Arbuis rode a patrol motorcycle to monitor the situation in the cemeteries in the area as part of the security preparation for the observance of the All Saints and All Souls Day.

Querante said when Arbuis reached Barangay Kanyuko, he noticed that a man, who seemed to be drunk, was walking along the national road in a zigzag manner.

When the station chief drove near Baybayanon, the latter suddenly crossed the street and was hit by the motorcycle.

“Ga-roving ang hepe, galakaw sa dalan ang hubog, nikalit la’g tabok sa karsada nabangaan ang hubog,” Querante said.

Both of them suffered injuries and Arbuis brought Baybayanon to the Barili District Hospital for medical treatment.

Querante said the victim’s son went to the station and settled the case amicably with the station chief, who promised to shoulder Baybayanon’s medical expenses.

Meanwhile, a school security guard died after his motorcycle collided with another motorcycle driven by a 22-year-old past 1 p.m. on Saturday in Barangay Tapilon, Daanbantayan.

Virgillo Padilla, 38, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Daanbantayan District Hospital while Juvelito Santuele is in critical condition after he suffered severe injuries.
