Nokia 6760 Slide: Twit, chat and then some

MANILA, Philippines - We are who or what we make ourselves out to be. Or at least that is what I have learned through the years.

Believe me I have met lots of people who are not too happy with what they have become. And again there are others who show us that joy comes from within.

When we are happy it radiates out of us. When we are not too happy with ourselves, that shows, too.

I have often told myself that I would like to be just like so and so because of how happy their lives are. And then there are other people who I have vowed to try never to be like when I grow older.

Weird, strange, different are some of the words I have encountered when people meet me for the first time. I might add, masungit, too.

“I met with a few friends recently,” said my friend Fiona. “They say that I have gained some weight.”

Now, Fiona is not too happy about the weight gain because she says people have told her that she no longer has a neck.

“Don’t feel too bad,” came my quick reply. “I have been asked if I have stopped going to the gym.”

Truth to tell, I go to the gym at least six times a week. And if I don’t make it to the gym I play badminton, or do some running in the village where I live.

All that weight talk got me to thinking.

“I guess what is important is that we are happy with who we are, right?” I asked Fiona.

“I am happy. But I would be happier if I were 10 pounds lighter,” came her quick reply.

“Ya, but it is still most important to be happy about who we are and what we have become,” I concluded.

It’s like that with all the gadgets, cellphones in particular, that I have come across over the last few weeks. There is always something a little different in each one of them. But there is a feature that makes them unique. All one has to do is to take the time to discover what that special something is.

How I wish that more people would take the time to discover the special something in each person they meet, rather than make harsh judgments based on what they see.

Enter Nokia 6760 slide

One of a kind perhaps would be an overstatement to use when describing this cutie of a cellphone.

Let’s see, it has a full Qwerty keyboard, which has become quite common nowadays, more so when talking about smartphones.

Here’s the clincher then, the Nokia 6760 slide is a generic messenger - a smart messenger that is ready to roll in the mid-range market.

Yes, the mid-range market where most of us cellphone lovers and buyers fit into.

“Tita Kathy, can I try the Nokia 6760 slide out?” asked my nosy 15-year-old nephew.

I hand over the Nokia 6760.

“Galing,” he said. “I can start twitting now. And, here’s my Facebook account. Let me update my status.”

Here’s what the kid enjoyed most about the Nokia 6760 slide.

It is quad-band with GSM support and 3G with HSDPA. It has a full Qwerty keyboard. And, yes, size matters. It is small, fits in the palm of the hand, is light and very compact.

“It’s fast,” he added. “I can text in a breeze.”

When we are in a rush, fast texting is a must, and I must add that the Nokia 6760 slide does not fail.

The three-megapixel camera is good enough for the quick snaps that we took in a family gathering recently. We were able to load the images in the Facebook account of the young one in one easy go.

Twit, twit

I had already set up the basics - the personalizing stuff which I am wont to do as soon as I get hold of a cellphone. So that was not a problem. As with all Nokia cellphones, setting up took no more than 10 minutes.

I did some research on the development of the Nokia 6760 and I learned that when the Finnish company developed the cellphone they had optimized messaging in mind. I might add that I believe that they were looking more to the Philippine market, as we are truly a large messaging country. I might add further that the young folks today don’t just text, they twit, update Facebook accounts and chat on the many sites there are out there.

The Nokia 6760 slide has a fast and easy access to favorite social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. Since I have to admit that I am not really a big fan of social networking sites, I liked the fact that I was able to set up my e-mail accounts in a jiffy - Yahoo and Google in particular.

Simple does it. All I needed to do was input my passwords for my account on Yahoo and Google and then voila, the 6760 slide started getting my e-mail.

The Symbian-driven Nokia 6760 slide has a responsive and fast user interface and offers various social networking integration. I enjoyed browsing the Net as the Web browser is really great.

Multi-task away

The Nokia 6760 slide is a great multi-tasker - you can tweet, e-mail, IM, share online, browse the Web, listen to music, all at the same time.

But the basic features of the Nokia 6760 slide is an 8GB of expandable memory in a microSD card. I was quite happy with the shots we took at the family get-together. Especially of the kids eating - although the 6760 didn’t take the shots as quickly as I would have wanted. Still, the ones I took were really cool and perhaps even well-thought of.

In a life of multi-tasking a cellphone like the Nokia 6760 is good to have. Why does it always seem like there is so little time and so much to do? I guess, that is what these cool cellphone gadgets are all about - giving us a few moments to take in the world around us and yet get the things that we have to get done, done.

What do I like about the Nokia 6760 slide?

• It is small and compact. It fits perfectly into my big bag and I can also slide it into my pants’ pocket when the occasion calls for it.

• It is easy to use and even easier to set up.

• It gets my e-mail pronto.

• It was a real wow among my younger nephews and nieces. These kids think that I will never grow up.

“Please, Tita Kathy, stay cool always,” said my 10-year-old nephew. “You’re fun even if you’re old.”

How can I not like a cellphone that keeps me young?

Kids, they really know more than we think they do.
