Chelsea to receive new vessel in April

Richmond Mercurio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Chelsea Logistics and Infrastructure Holdings Corp. of businessman Dennis Uy is set to receive by April its latest Japan-made passenger ship as part of the group’s ongoing fleet expansion and modernization.

It launched the brand new roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) passenger vessel at Kegoya Dock Co. Ltd.’s Japan shipyard on Jan. 15.

The group’s 11th brand new Ro-Ro passenger vessel called M/V Starlite Venus measures 97.78-meter in length and has a carrying capacity of 740 passengers, 22 buses, and six trucks.

“We are thrilled to start the year with the launch of M/V Starlite Venus. Every time we launch a brand-new vessel, we feel a sense of confidence on our business model and our commitment to provide better maritime transport for all Filipinos,” Chelsea president and chief executive officer Chryss Alfonsus Damuy said.

“We are certain that our close working relations with Kegoya Dock will help Chelsea fulfill its domestic commitments and regional aspirations,” Damuy said.

The new passenger ferry ship brings Chelsea’s fleet to a total of 74 vessels, consisting of 22 Ro-Ro passenger vessels, 11 fastcrafts, nine cargo ships, 16 tankers, 13 tugboats, and two floating docks through its subsidiaries Chelsea Shipping Corp., Starlite Ferries Inc., Trans-Asia Shipping Lines Inc. and Supercat Fast Ferry Corp.

Trans-Asia Shipping Lines received last month a brand-new Ro-Ro type passenger ferry from Japan which is set to serve the Cebu–Cagayan de Oro–Cebu route.

Chelsea was created to act as the holding company of the shipping and logistics arm business segments of the Udenna Group of Companies.

The company is engaged in shipping and logistics businesses with key segments divided into charter, passage, freight, tugboat services, and logistics services.
