MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines plans to participate in 12 international trade events and conduct outbound business matching missions to six countries for the rest of the year to help promote the country’s exports, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said.

DTI-Export Marketing Bureau director Senen Perlada said for August, the country is looking at participating in the Automechanika trade fair in Frankfurt in Germany as well as in the Brunei Halal Showcase to promote automotive and halal food products, respectively.

For the month of September, he said there are plans to participate in the China-Asean (Association of Southeast Nations) Expo to promote Philippine food, services and other consumer goods, as well as in the Maison et Objet in Paris in France for the lifestyle and fashion sector.

As for October, the Philippines is interested in the MIPCOM or the largest trade event for entertainment content being held in Cannes, France; the Korea International Furniture and Interior Fair in South Korea; the food and beverage expo FABEX in Japan; and international food exhibition SIAL in Paris.

Perlada said the Philippines is also looking at the following events to be held in November: the China International Import Expo in Shanghai; computer and video games trade show G-Star in South Korea; International Furniture Fair Tokyo in Japan and the international trade fair for electronic components, systems and applications called  Electronica in Munich in Germany.

Aside from participating in international trade shows, the DTI through the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions, is also set to hold the Manila FAME in October, which would serve as the venue to source Philippine home, fashion, holiday and architectural and interior pieces.

The DTI is likewise organizing outbound business matching missions to South Africa and Mozambique to promote Philippine food, services and consumer goods.

An outbound business matching mission in Israel is also in the pipeline to market electronics and information technology and allied industries as well as in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to focus on halal products.

In addition, there are planned visits to Vietnam and Myanmar to promote Philippine brands for franchising.

“[These are] the international promotion projects or events that we plan to undertake for the rest of the year to boost exports,” Perlada said.
