Unioil launches CAA compliant gasoline

-
Unioil Petroleum Philippines Inc. became the first oil company in the country to comply with the mandate of the Clean Air Act when it launched yesterday Quantum Pure Power in simple ceremonies at its Sucat gas station located along Dr. A. Santos Ave. (formerly Sucat Road) Barangay San Dionisio, Sucat, Parañaque City.

Sen. Robert Jaworski, chairman of the Senate committee on environment and natural resources; Rep. Nereus Acosta, one of the authors of the Clean Air Act; and Department of Energy Secretary Vincent Perez were among the government officials present during the launch.

Lawyer Lawrence Luang, Unioil vice president for corporate affairs, announced during the launch an-across-the-board rollback of P0.40 per liter on all its petroleum products effective yesterday due to a decrease in oil price worldwide.

The launching of Quantum Pure Power is significant because it makes available in the Philippines the first gasoline to successfully reduce substances known to be harmful to the environment and human health: aromatics and benzene. Aromatics hydrocarbons have been found to cause harm to the ozone layer. Benzene, on the other hand, is a known human carcinogen. Long-term exposure to benzene can cause a variety of illnesses ranging from nausea, convulsions and even leukemia.
