Fernandez beats Eala tormentor

OSAKA — Fil-Canadian Leylah Fernandez beat Czech teenager Tereza Valentova 6-0, 5-7, 6-3 to win the Japan Open on Sunday.
Fernandez, the world No. 27, added to her victory at the DC Open in Washington in July by seeing off qualifier Valentova in Osaka.
Fernandez paid tribute to beaten opponent Valentova, who was playing in her first WTA final at the age of 18. The Czech opened her Japan Open campaign with a 6-1, 6-2 rout of Alex Eala.
