Marcos Jr. won’t allow destabilizers during his watch

MANILA, Philippines — With rumors of an ouster plot swirling, President Marcos yesterday vowed not to allow any move to destabilize the government as he called on the military to remain loyal to the country.

Speaking during his visit to Camp Evangelista in Cagayan de Oro City, Marcos emphasized that the government’s focus is on developing the countryside and fighting insurgency.

“We will also not allow agents within the country to destabilize our government and create division within our nation,” the President said.

“I urge all of you to continue to (demonstrate) your loyalty, patriotism and service to your country. And let that love of country remain as your compass in your duty to our country and to our people,” he added.

Earlier, former senator Antonio Trillanes IV claimed that several retired and active police officials are seeking to destabilize the Marcos administration. He said some police officials have been recruiting personnel to join the plot since last year but did not provide their identities.

According to Trillanes, those involved in the destabilization effort are plotting to oust Marcos to allow either former president Rodrigo Duterte or his daughter Vice President Sara Duterte to seize the country’s leadership.

The Philippine National Police has denied that some of its personnel are plotting to overthrow Marcos. It has also urged Trillanes to spare the law enforcers from destabilization rumors so they can focus on their mandate.

Marcos said the country’s enemies “may be hiding in the shadows or infiltrating the very communities and institutions that the government seeks to protect.” The government is ready to fight back and implement countermeasures to thwart any “nefarious schemes and attempts,” the Chief Executive added.

The President also urged the Army troops in Cagayan de Oro City to sustain the momentum of their operations until the city is completely cleared of terrorist influence.

He cited the need for soldiers to develop their skills and to acquire knowledge to counter new forms of threats, including those that are in the digital realm.

“We must be prepared to fight false narratives, disinformation, and digital operations that seek to sow conflict (against us) and among us,” Marcos said.

Marcos said the government has invested P5.3 billion in 758 projects across 356 barangays, including infrastructure, roads, water systems, schools and health centers. The majority or 78 percent are now considered completed, he added.
