Bike for climate change up
MANILA, Philippines - Mike Tampengco, president of the organizing Philippine Collegiate Cycling, has organized a cycling event dubbed “Padyak Para sa Kalikasan” set Feb. 7 at Gapan, Nueva Ecija.
The event aims to generate awareness of the serious catastrophic effect of climate change and to underscore the need for preparedness in anticipation of calamities such as earthquakes.
Other categories on tap are Open-team, master, amateur, mountain bike, executive, women and national collegiate. The top three winners of each event will receive medals and cash.
Tampengco said the fun bike event is a timely project for all who love cycling and see it as a means of physical fitness and sports.
“The bigger portion of the event is the fun bike – that’s why we had to add additional event and tapped all cycling clubs in the country, especially cycling clubs,” said Tampengco.
Noel Vicencio, president of the Nueva Ecija Cycling Club, is handling the event, which also serves as tuneup for next year’s World University Cycling Championship in Tagaytay.
