Arcilla eyes 8th PCA Open plum

MANILA, Philippines - Davis Cupper Johnny Arcilla braces for a tough outing as he seeks a record eighth championship in the PCA (Philippine Columbian Association) Open firing off tomorrow at the PCA Courts in Plaza Dilao, Paco, Maniila.

Arcilla will be up against fellow national players Vicente Anasta and John Patrick Tierro with the likes of Rolando Ruel, Marc Reyes, Ronard Joven and Leander Lazaro also tipped to crowd the fancied bets in the $600,000 event which offers P100,000 to the champion.

Marian Jade Capadocia also sets out for her title retention bid in the women’s side of the event with Clarice Patrimonio looming as her likely challenger for the top P50,000 purse.

Also up for grabs are the men’s doubles and women’s doubles titles worth P50,000 and P20,000 each.

The tournament, presented by Cebuana Lhuillier with Dunlop as the official ball, also featured the juniors division last week with Daniel Estanislao winning the 10 unisex crown, and Marcus del Rosario and Miles Vitaliano pocketing the 12-under titles.

Other junior winners were Cenon Gonzales Jr. and Rafaella Jean Villanueva (14-under), Vince Salas and Erika Manduriao (16-under), and Calvin Charles Canlas and Jzash Canja (18-under).

Also on tap in the PCA Open are the inter-club invitational executive team tennis and the regular team tennis along with the pro-am doubles and the inter-college team championship for men and women.
