Letter to the Editor - Continue the vigilance vs. Cha-Cha

-
Kabataan Party-Cebu City urges for continued vigilance against Cha-Cha in the light of Mrs. Gloria Arroyo and her spokepersons' recent statements of a fresh push for constitutional change.

While we have won gains in the campaign against Cha-Cha, it is becoming clear that the Arroyo administration is only biding time before it renew its efforts to effect revisions in the charter. The Arroyo government, which is guilty of anti-youth policies like the neglect of education which leads to yearly school fee increases and a rising number of out-of-school youths, has been selling Cha-Cha as a panacea for all the country's ills. We say: What the country is in dire need of is social change.

The country will only progress if landless and feudal relations in the countryside, overwhelming domination of foreign interests in the country's affairs, and rampant corruption amid declining government support for social services is addressed.

Cha-Cha, be it through Con-Ass or Con-Con, will never solve the fundamental ills afflicting the Filipino people. Instead of pushing the country forward, Cha-Cha will only perpetuate Arroyo and her allies in power and correspondingly, enact even more anti-people and anti-youth machinations.
