5 dead in Benguet vehicular

KABAYAN, Benguet , Philippines — Five people were killed while 25 others were injured when their truck rolled over along the Baguio-Nueva Vizcaya road in Barangay Poblacion in this town before noon yesterday.

The victims, who came from Bauko in Mountain Province, were on their way to a graduation and a wedding in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya.

Kabayan Mayor Rex Aquisan said the fatalities included two boys aged three and 11.

Probers said the truck developed engine trouble as it was negotiating a winding part of the highway, causing it to roll over.

Responding police officers and rescue workers rushed the victims to different hospitals where the five fatalities were declared dead on arrival.
