Over 4.7 million register for barangay, SK polls

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 4,740,551 people so far have filed their applications for voter registration for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in November, the Commission on Elections announced yesterday.
The Comelec said the Calabarzon region posted the highest number of applicants with 767,901 people, followed by Central Luzon with 524,679 and Metro Manila, 501,352.
Bicol and Central Visayas also registered a high number of voter registrants with 283,376 and 279,480, respectively.
According to the Comelec, the Cordillera Administrative Region had the fewest number of applicants with 64,256.
Two other regions registered a low number of applicants: Caraga with 139,733 and Mimaropa, 140,518.
Voter registration for this year’s barangay and youth polls will run until May 18.
Applicants may register at any satellite or mall registration site or at the office of the election officer. At least 11,394 applications were received in the Comelec’s special register anywhere/anytime program.
