MANILA, Philippines — With over 6,500 police officers and emergency response personnel deployed, the Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday gave assurance that security measures are in place for the celebration of the Sinulog Festival in Cebu.

A send-off ceremony for the security contingent has been held at the Cebu City Sports Complex, according to Central Visayas police director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan.

Acting PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez directed the Cebu police to coordinate with local government units and other concerned agencies measures intended for a peaceful and orderly observance of the festival.

“While our police forces in Metro Manila are busy implementing security measures for the Feast of the Black Nazarene, we are also making sure that the same level of peace and order measures will be in place in Cebu for the Sinulog,” Nartatez said.

No threat related to the observance of Sinulog has been monitored so far, but Nartatez said the PNP is not letting its guard down and is intensifying security for the event.
