MANILA, Philippines — Around 200 police officers will secure the traslacion or the procession of the image of the Black Nazarene on Jan. 9, 2026.

Police will protect the carriage carrying the religious image and monitor the devotees pulling its ropes, Quiapo Church officials said yesterday.

No minors are allowed to pull the ropes, Quiapo Church’s technical adviser Alex Irasga said, recalling that children suffered fractures in past traslacions.

Distinct uniforms showing the image of the Black Nazarene and the words “Police ng Panginoon” will be worn by the policemen, Irasga said.

The Philippine National Police will also deploy 14,000 personnel in Manila on the Feast Day of the Black Nazarene.

The traslacion from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church is expected to last 15 hours. Devotees are encouraged to join the thanksgiving procession today.
