Valenzuela aids families affected by water seepage
MANILA, Philippines — The Valenzuela City government gave P360,000 in financial assistance to 26 families who were evacuated due to a water seepage from a construction project of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
Mayor Weslie Gatchalian led the distribution of financial aid to residents who were evacuated from their homes along Agustin street in Barangay Karuhatan.
Gatchalian said 10 house owners received P20,000 in cash each while 16 families who were renting houses got P10,000 each.
The contractor of the DPWH project, J. Simeon Construction Firm, also provided P30,000 to each owner and P20,000 to each renter.
The affected families also received food packs, grocery items, family kits and kitchen utensils from the city government.
The residents have been at the Malinta Junior High School since May 26, following the damage and scouring on the road due to water seepage from the construction site of a four-story legislative building with basement parking.
Gatchalian said the residents shall relocate temporarily as the repairs could take around six months.
“The city government also assures the residents that the contractor will be required to expedite construction efforts, particularly during favorable weather conditions, to ensure the immediate repair of the area,” he said.
