Boy, 8, beaten by pa dies; girl, 14 raped

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — An eight-year-old boy, who fell into a coma after being beaten by his father in General Santos City on Tuesday, died yesterday.

The boy died at the Doctor Jorge Royeca Hospital, the General Santos police said in a report to Soccsksargen police director Brig. Gen. Jimili Macaraeg,

Criminal charges have been filed against the father of the boy, Roy Canlaon Jr.

Canlaon was reportedly drunk when he slammed his son to the ground after the boy refused to buy him another bottle of liquor.

In Palawan, Jaymark Briones, who was accused of raping a 14-year-old girl, was arrested in Barangay San Miguel in Puerto Princesa on Wednesday.

Probers said the suspect and the victim met through Facebook.

The suspect reportedly took the victim to a lodging house, where the alleged rape, which he also filmed, occurred.

Briones faces charges of rape as well as violation of the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism and Special Protection of Children against Child Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Acts.
