More dengue cases logged

MANILA, Philippines — More dengue cases have been recorded in different parts of the country as the rainy season has yet to start, the Department of Health (DOH) said yestreday.

Data from the DOH’s Disease Surveillance Report showed there were 37,650 dengue cases reported from Jan. 1 to April 22.

The figure is 49 percent higher compared to the 25,296 cases reported during the same period last year.

The National Capital Region recorded the highest number of dengue cases with 5,202 followed by Calabarzon with 4,051 and Central Luzon, 3,889.

Compared to 2022, regions that recorded the highest increase are Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) with 410 percent, Soccsksargen (South Cotbato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos) with 216 percent and Metro Manila with 123 percent.

Data showed a decrease in dengue-related deaths this year with two, from 12 last year.
