2 dead in Maguindanao Sur gunfight

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Two persons were killed in a gunfight of two rival groups in Sultan sa Barongis, Maguindanao del Sur early yesterday.

Police and local officials said the firefight erupted when the group of Marham Sali attacked Ustadz Daya and his men in Damabagu area at around 3 a.m.

Two of Sali’s men were killed while four others were wounded.

Probers have yet to determine what triggered the hostility between the two groups.

Maj. Gen. Roy Galido, 6th Infantry Division commander, said more soldiers were deployed in the area to ensure peace and order.
