MANILA, Philippines — Three police officers in Manila were temporarily relieved as an investigation is underway of the encounter that led to the death of an indiscriminate firing suspect’s alleged accomplice.

In a dzMM report, Manila Police District (MPD) public information chief Maj. Philipp Ines said the administrative suspension of police officers is part of standard operation procedure.

The suspect, Kristie Ros Castro, reportedly shot at police officers, who retaliated, during a hot pursuit operation along Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard in Sta. Mesa, Manila at past midnight on Monday.

Castro’s “maid” and alleged accomplice, Reann Pilar, was killed in the encounter.

Police are eyeing a crime of passion because Castro shot at the house of her ex-boyfriend in Barangay 570, Sampaloc.

Castro, in her second attempt to fire shots at the house, was met with responding police officers, including MPD-Special Operation Unit chief Maj. Rommel Purisima, a resident of the area.

A 9mm pistol was confiscated from the suspect, who was arrested after the hot pursuit operation.
