MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City government received multiple awards during the 31st anniversary of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Aug. 25.

The local government was recognized for having the Best City Jail in the National Capital Region under the male dormitory category as well as the Best Quarantine Facility for its QC Jail Ligtas COVID Center.

The city government also received a special award for its support to the BJMP.

Quezon City was also recognized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) as among the cities in Metro Manila with the best peace and order as well as anti-drug abuse councils.

Quezon City as well as the local governments of Pateros, San Juan, Taguig and Valenzuela were lauded for having the highest functional peace and order council for 2019 and 2021 based on the DILG’s “Regional Peace and Order Councils Functionality Audit.”

Quezon City, together with Navotas, Parañaque and Pasay, was also hailed as having the highest functional Anti-Drug Abuse Council for 2021.

“Quezon City will continue to implement programs and policies that would promote and maintain peace and order as well as public safety,” the local government said in a statement.

Meanwhile, in celebration of the 91st National Heroes Day yesterday, Mayor Joy Belmonte led the launching of a painting exhibit at SM North EDSA featuring works that highlight ordinary citizens as “everyday heroes.”

Artists who participated in the exhibit were members of Art Show Philippines led by its founder Frederick Epistola. The exhibit will run until Sept. 4.
