Man charged for beating upsenior in viral video
MANILA, Philippines — The Las Piñas police filed charges yesterday against a man seen in a viral video beating up a senior citizen with a baseball bat during a traffic altercation.
City police chief Col. Jaime Santos told The STAR in a phone interview that Gerson Gonzales was charged with physical injuries for assaulting Julian Adiao Jr., 70, on Sunday afternoon.
Police said Gonzales and Adiao figured in an argument while traversing Marcos Alvarez Avenue in Barangay Talon Singko.
Gonzales was seen in the video repeatedly hitting Adiao with a baseball bat.
While there was a reported verbal settlement between the two men, Santos said it is now null and void.
“If there was a settlement, it is only verbal. There was no certification from the fiscal. That is considered null,” he told The STAR in Filipino.
Santos also said that police could not find Gonzales.
“Maybe he is hiding for now, but the important thing is we already filed the case against him,” he said.
