5 drown in Cagayan river

TUGUEGARAO, Philippines  – Five persons, including four children, drowned in a river in Iguig, Cagayan on Saturday morning.

John Ace Duldulao, 10; his brothers  John Nijel, 9, and John Ace, 7, and their friends,  twins John Richard and John Ric Tapa, 11, were swimming in Barangay Malabbac when they were carried away by the current.

Marisol Duldulao, 27,  heard her children crying for help and rushed to save them.  She too, was carried away by the current, according to S/Sgt. Jonard Claro.

Villagers rushed the victims to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center, but five of them were declared dead on arrival.

“Only John Ace survived,” Claro said.
