MANILA, Philippines — Several cities announced class suspensions from March 9 tp 11 after the Department of Health confirmed the first case of local transmission of COVID-19 in the Philippines.

The health agency on Saturday confirmed that the country's fifth case of the deadly disease, a man with no travel history, was indeed due to local transmission of the virus.

The DOH raised the alert level of the outbreak to Code Red sublevel 1, which means there is anticipation of “possible sustained community transmission” of the disease.

President Rodrigo Duterte declared a nationwide state of public health emergency as the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 continues to rise.

The Department of Health on Sunday confirmed four additional cases of the novel coronavirus disease, namely two Filipinos and two foreign nationals who are being treated in undisclosed private hospitals.

Below are the areas where classes have been suspended.  Click here if you cannot view the LIVE list below.

Editor's note: An earlier version of the story showed that Quezon City is among the cities which announced suspension of classes. This has been corrected.
