MANILA, Philippines — A barangay councilman was shot dead during a quarrel in Batangas City on Saturday night.

Jorge Almarez was declared dead on arrival in a hospital due to gunshot wounds in the head and body.

Probers said Almarez figured in a spat with Gilbert Acuna, who reportedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim several times.

A manhunt was launched against the suspect.

Meanwhile, in Cavite, coconut vendor Joel Macaraeg, 33, died at the scene after an unidentified assailant shot him in the head.

Macaraeg had just alighted from a tricycle when he was shot by the assailant, who was tailing him in Barangay Molino I in Bacoor.
