Police nab NPA logistics officer
LEGAZPI CITY , Philippines – A logistics officer of the New People’s Army (NPA) was captured in Barangay Macawayan in Irosin town Thursday morning while carrying firearms, ammunition and explosives, the police said.
Joint elements from the Alpha Company of the 49th Infantry Batallion under 1st Lt. Henry Pabilonio and Irosin police under Police Inspector Garry Mangente nabbed Bernabe Alim, 51, of Barangay Macawayan at about 12:30 a.m., PNP Bicol spokesperson Superintendent Eliciar Bron said.
Recovered from the suspect’s backpack were three long sleeves with Bagong Hukbong Bayan marking, one piece police uniform, assorted medicines, subversive documents and personal belongings, including two hand grenades, one M-1 carbine, live ammunition for M-16 rifle, .38 caliber revolver and 9mm pistol.
The suspect is now undergoing tactical interrogation at Irosin police station.
Further, a checkpoint set up by Libon police Thursday evening at the national road along Velasco street in Zone 1, Libon town captured Jesus Secretario, 25, of Barangay Malosbolos with three backriders, Melchor Siaron, 21; Taysel Sasota, 20, and Rodel Manilag, all single and unemployed in possession of a 357 caliber revolver, a .45 caliber pistol, one box containing 50 pieces of live ammunition for .45 caliber pistol, three cellphones and two black bonnets.
