Philippine Coast Guard welcomes first female paratroopers
MANILA, Philippines — Three female Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel made history by being the first women paratroopers in the agency.
A paratrooper is a defense personnel trained to parachute into an area of operation from an aircraft.
In a statement on Friday, December 12, the PCG lauded the newly minted paratroopers, saying that they have displayed grit and discipline throughout their training.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Deborah Magannon, Seawoman First Honey Beverly Seblos and Apprentice Seawoman Sahada Sakib became the first women coast guard paratroopers after finishing a demanding airborne course.
The PCG described them as “fearless women who proved that courage knows no limits and that the sky is never too high for those who dare.”
“Their achievement is more than a badge; it’s a breakthrough for every woman in uniform and every young Filipina who dreams of serving the nation,” PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan said.
Earlier in April, the PCG also welcomed its first-ever female two-star general, Rear Admiral Mitzie Silva-Campo. Prior to this, Silva-Campo was also the first female one-star general in the PCG.
