MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Appointments (CA) yesterday confirmed the nomination of former foreign affairs secretary Enrique Manalo as permanent representative to the United Nations, as well as the appointments of 20 officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and 23 officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Those from the DFA were Ambassadors Francisco Fernandez (Vietnam), Patrick Hilado (Brazil, Guyana and Suriname), Jaime Ramon Ascalon Jr. (Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan), Gines Jaime Ricardo Gallaga (Bahrain), Pablito Mendoza (Denmark), Marlowe Miranda (Lebanon) and Noel Novicio (Fiji).

The DFA also received six chiefs of mission, three career ministers and seven foreign service officers.

Among the 15 newly promoted generals were Lt. Gen. Cerilo Balaoro Jr. and Major Generals Oliver Maquiling, Aldwine Almase, Vicente Mark Anthony Blanco III, Gerold Gagan and Ronald Jess Alcudia.

The new brigadier generals are Enriqueto Deocadez Jr., Luisit Angeles Jr., Pedro Agapito, Apollo Jun Lamaton, Joel Sobrera, Ricnon Carolasan, Rhoderick Parallag and Rhenante Salvador.

The Philippine Army has two colonels: Arnold Panaligan and Antonio Yago while Air Force has one – Roy Philip Aguhob.

The Navy has one commodore, Joel Tamayo, and one captain for its reserve force, Medardo Deacosta Jr.
