MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines has renewed its defense cooperation with Pakistan in an effort to further strengthen ties between the militaries of both nations.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and Pakistani Ambassador Dr. Imtiaz Ahmad Kazi recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo.

The agreement formalizes defense relations between the Philippines and Pakistan following long-standing exchanges in military education and training, port visits and interactions in multilateral fora.

“In today’s world of grave political, economic, climactic challenges – transborder conflicts and above all, rise in global terrorism – require all of us to join hands in bilateral as well as regional framework to collectively tackle these challenges for a broader goal of regional global peace and security,” Kazi said during the ceremony last week.
