POEA warns against unauthorized emails with ‘unsafe links or attachments’

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration is warning the public against unauthorized emails with “unknown/unsafe links or attachments” using the agency's name.
"The public is hereby reminded that the POEA Assistance and Welfare Division does not send attachments, forward links, or require electronic transfers," the advisory, signed by POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia, read.
POEA said individuals and entities have been posing as the Repatriation Unit, Assistance and Welfare Dvision, POEA Central Office: REPATnAssistance while sending emails to overseas Filipino workers, their relatives, or Licensed Recruitment Agencies.
The agency said the unauthorized persons have been circulating the links and attachments "in order to cause confusion and damage."
"The public is encouraged to be vigilant in practicing highest security measures to avoid breach and damage," it added.
POEA said it has since reported the issue to its Information, Communications, and Technology Services (ICTS) for appropriate action. — Kaycee Valmonte
