What's new today?

  • The Department of Health does not consider Davao City as a coronavirus epicenter but authorities are monitoring the situation there as infections continue to rise.

  • The Department of Trade and Industry is proposing the reopening of indoor establishments such as gyms and museums at a low operating capacity.

  • US Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer is urging President Joe Biden to set aside at least five million doses of COVID-19 vaccines for the Philippines – a key ally and former colony – as part of the US commitment to donate excess vaccines to other countries.

  • The US has also lowered its travel advisory level to the Philippines from Level 4, "do not travel," to Level 3, "reconsider travel."

  • The Level 3 advisory is due to a "high level of COVID-19" in the country as well as "crime, terrorism, civil unrest, and kidnapping," in the Sulu Archipelago, Marawi City and other parts of Mindanao, according to the US Department of State website.

  • The Philippine National Police has filed several charges before the Mandaluyong City Prosecutor’s Office against two men behind the sale of vaccine and vaccination slots.
