MANILA, Philippines — The mother of one of the child witnesses in the case of the killing of teenage student Kian delos Santos has allowed the Senate to maintain custody of her child.

On Friday, Sen. Risa Hontiveros showed the consent form of the mother of the 13-year-old witness.

The consent form also covers a 16-year-old witness, who is a cousin of the other underage witness.

"Bilang tumatayong guardian ng dalawa sa mga testigo at ayon na rin po sa kagustuhan ng mga ito, nais po nilang manatili sa pangangalaga ni Sen. Risa Hontiveros sapagkat sila po ay panatag sa kanilang panig," the sister of one of the witnesses said in a letter.

The sister of the witness said that their mother, who is working in Oman, has agreed to allow the Senate to maintain custody of the children.

Hontiveros said that the three witnesses to the killing of Delos Santos are at a sanctuary of a diocese but are under the protective custody of the Senate, according to a report from The STAR.

The senator earlier said that she would request for an executive session in the Senate for the child witnesses to give their testimonies.

"Nais natin bigyan ng katarungan si Kian at kung nais natin na hindi na magkaroon ng dagdag na Kian, bigyan natin ng boses at sapat na kalinga ang mga saksi sa kanyang pagkamatay," Hontiveros said during the Senate hearing last Thursday. — Patricia Lourdes Viray
