MANILA, Philippines — Rhian Ramos admitted that she was challenged to play her first major villain role that she portrayed for more than a year on TV, a first in a career that usually features her as the protagonist.

Together with a change in look as a winter queen, Rhian singlehandedly wreaked havoc as snow queen Mitena in "Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre." She schemed to usurp the Lireo throne against the 2016 Sang'gres, played by Kylie Padilla, Sanya Lopez, Gabbi Garcia, and Glaiza de Castro.

"Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre" is a continuation of the 2016 show that features the passing of power and guardianship of the elemental gems — fire, air, water and earth — to its next keepers who are the original guardians' offspring. The new generation is portrayed by Bianca Umali, Faith da Silva, Angel Guardian, and Kelvin Miranda.

Now on its final stretch of its 47-week run, Rhian looks back at her year as fantasy TV's most hated antagonist.

“It’s different from other roles that I’ve gotten in the past. Very complex and an additional challenge of having action scenes, speaking in a different way that I’m not used to, so like really memorizing my lines. There’s no ad-libbing in Encantadia. I couldn’t,” Rhian said.

Like many enchanted worlds with their own lore, Encantadia has its own language called Enchan and in the case of Rhian's Mitena, the once-ruler of Mine-a-ve, the frozen kingdom also has its own language.

“This is my first experience of being in a show for years. So it became really like such a big part of my life, even everyone that we worked with. I’ve learned things as an actor and also just as a person, as a professional, learning how to go through so many life stages and still stay focused on what your task is at work,” the actress added.

Much of the show saw her a villain — and briefly an antihero in the middle of its run — until the entry of Tom Rodriguez as the forgotten dark lord Gargan. Together, they are testing the courage and fate of Encantadia's heroes as the show ends this Friday, May 8, on GMA-7.
