Diego Loyzaga wants to work with dad

Diego Loyzaga is happy at this point in his life.
“I’m at a good turning point, a very good turning point. I’m loving my job and career. I’m happy. I just had the best vacation of all-time. It was so good. I love the States,” declared Diego during the virtual media conference for Vivamax film Adarna Gang, helmed by Jon Red.
Diego went on a solo trip to the United States last December. Months later, his girlfriend of one year, Barbie Imperial, confirmed their split-up.
The 26-year-old actor had made plans prior to 2022, but, “you know in life, sometimes not everything goes (according) to plan. So I had to reassess. I had to see where I wanted to go again now that things have changed. ‘What (am I) gonna do? What am I working for? What am I doing all this for? What’s my one-year plan, two-year plan? Where I’m gonna be five years from now?’” he mused.
His vacation abroad had him thinking more about his future. “In the US, I got a set of new eyes. I know now what I wanna do. I know now what I’m saving up for. I know where I wanna be five years from now. It’s very nice. It’s very refreshing,” he said.
“I feel like I’m a new me although physically right now I’m kinda sick. I dunno, I guess, it’s the jetlag. (I) kinda get the sipon and a cough. But aside from those physical things, my mind is in the right place. My heart is in the right place and I’m a very happy guy. Everything’s great,” he continued and reiterated the importance of self-love in one’s well-being.
Moreover, he fervently hoped to work with his dad, Cesar Montano, someday in a project. He said, “That’s a dream come true if I get to work with him. A very, very long time coming. I don’t wanna tell you guys if there’s a plan but in a way, there is, kinda (there) is. I’m just not so sure of how certain that it will happen but it’s definitely been a dream of mine since I met him, since I joined showbiz, since I was a kid.”
“Hopefully, this message, this interview reaches (him) and he says yes. Sana nga talaga makasama ko siya and I’ll learn so much from him. Sayang eh. I mean there’s not much time left. If ever that we did do something together, so now would be the perfect time,” he furthered.
As a son of both good-looking actors in showbiz, Diego shared how he got his personality from his mom, Teresa Loyzaga, while he inherited most of his physical features from his dad.
“I grew up with my mom so I think most of my personality was built from what I saw at an early age,” said the self-confessed mama’s boy. “Living with my mom, surrounded by puro mga babae, aside from my older brother. I guess, I got that personality from them.”
Aside from the physical features, Diego also picked up a few things from his dad. He admitted that he is a fan of his veteran actor-father. He would watch his films and admired him for making it to Hollywood via films The Great Raid and Freedom Fighters. But, of course, he also makes an effort to carve a name for himself in the entertainment industry.
“I strive to one day be, they could also say, as good as him. Or better? Or just be like in that caliber of artists or be respected as an artist,” shared Diego.
He likewise idolizes his mom’s singing ability. “She sings so good. I really wish I could (also sing). It doesn’t matter if I take lessons. But my mom is just good at singing and my dad also. He is so natural. I guess, I got best of both worlds but then I’m also always parang I’m trying to strive to be better than that, or go beyond that.”
Moreover, Diego and his Adarna Gang co-star Mark Anthony Fernandez shared the same sentiments when it came to having both talented actor-parents.
Mark acknowledged he got his facial features mostly from his mother, Alma Moreno. “Super fan din ako ng mom ko at ng papa ko. Acting-wise, lumalabas din yun. Minsan feeling ko nga nandun ako sa isang project not because of really me but because of (the late) Rudy Fernandez, my father. Ginagaya ko yung acting (niya).”
Adarna Gang also stars Coleen Garcia, JC Santos, Ronnie Lazaro, Soliman Cruz, Mickey Ferriols, Sharmaine Buencamino, and Jay Manalo.
(Adarna Gang’s playdate is on Mar. 11 on Vivamax.)
