CONVERSATIONS - Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star
Going wild, going free!

Derrick Monasterio & Sanya Lopez talk about their first/last times

Because she’s, ehem, “inexperienced” (as she claimed), Sanya Lopez said that aside from watching a lot of sexy films (Fifty Shades of Grey, etc.) she and co-star Derrick Monasterio attended workshops before they shot their steamy love scenes in Regal Entertainment’s Wild & Free, opening nationwide on Wednesday, Oct. 10. She plays a part-time TNVS (Transport Network Vehicle Service) driver who picks up “a man with a past” (played by Derrick).

Director Connie Macatuno (photo) was a big help.

How were Derrick and Sanya during the shoot of the love scenes?

“They were very open-minded about the sensual scenes,” said Connie. “Yes, we had a workshop before the principal shoot to know the limitations and to be transparent with the intimate sequences. Also, to prep them for the sequences, build trust between them as well as to be comfortable with each other.”

Confirming that Sanya is a virgin, Connie said that became a big challenge.

“Everything has to be taught. But she is a fast learner and she would come to the set prepared. Trust was a huge deal among the three of us.”

Connie added that she shot the love scenes from a woman’s point of view.

“Definitely!,” said Connie who added that she had not seen intimate scenes done by another woman director. “It’s not only men who enjoy sex but women as well. The scenes were crafted for women’s appreciation. And men’s, too! Naturaleza how intimate happens between two consenting adults.”

Besides their first daring outing, Derrick and Sanya talked about other “firsts” as well as “lasts” in their lives.

Derrick

Derrick: The first time I got starstruck was when I saw JLo in Hollywood four years ago. And the last time? Recently,na-starstruck ako sa ganda ni Sanya. Naks!

• First time I kissed somebody was with my mom (former actress Tina Monasterio). The last time was one week ago with…guess who? Hahaha!!!

• First time I was kissed by somebody was…if cheek-to-cheek is acceptable, ‘nung bata pa ako lagi akong kini-kiss ng mga relatives ko. Siguro kasi I was so cute. The last time I was kissed by somebody was one week ago by, again, guess who? Hahaha!!!

• First time I developed a crush on somebody was during my elementary school days. Dami kong crush noon! The last time was yesterday.

• First time I felt “rejected” by somebody was, well, hindi ko na po maalala because maybe I didn’t take it seriously. I was very young then and I felt that everything had its own timing. The last time was on Christmas Day last year. Who was she? Guess, hahaha!!!

• First time and last time I was betrayed by a friend. Hmmm, I’ve never been betrayed.

• First time I broke a promise…Hmmm, I always break promises but not serious ones. The last time was siguro last week po, mga simpleng bagay like. Pupunta ako sa invitation ng friend ko pero di ko napuntahan because I was pressed for time.

• First time I prayed real hard, well, madami po akong pinag-dadasal and I forgot what the first time was. I never forget to say a little prayer sa lahat ng mga ginagawa ko. The last time was one month ago.

• First time I experienced something traumatic was five years ago although I can’t recall over what. Thank God there hasn’t been another one.

• First thing I told Sanya before we shot our love scenes was, “Huwag kang mag-alaala; hindi ko hahawakan ‘yung mga bawal.” The last thing? We just gave each other high fives, lol. Parang mga pro!

• First thing and last thing I do before I go to sleep and as soon as I wake up is check my social media accounts.

• First investment was a car I bought eight years ago. The last was another car I bought four months ago with my showbiz earnings.

• First time I was starstruck was four years ago when I saw JLo in Hollywood. The last time was na-starstruck ako sa ganda ni Sanya recently. Naks!

• First time I realized that I am popular was a week before I joined showbiz when I started having a Facebook account. The last time was during the presscon for Wild & Free. Madami pala ang interesado sa life ko.

• First movie that I have seen was…Oh my, nakalimutan ko na! The last was The Predator.

• First time I forgot a loved one’s special occasion (such as a birthday), siguro noong young pa; before madalas ko makalimutan na malapit na ang birthday ko. The last time, I never forget birthdays now (thanks to Facebook).

Sanya

Sanya: The first time I prayed real hard was when I joined a beauty pageant, Reyna Ng Aliwan. The last time? Just last night, I prayed that our film would be a success.

• First thing I do as soon as I wake up is brush my teeth. Last thing I do before I go to sleep is check my celfone.

• First investment with my showbiz earnings is a Ford Everest SUV. The latest is a lot in Tagaytay.

• First time I was starstruck was when I did The Half Sisters. Na-starstruck ako kay Barbie (Forteza) not knowing she would be my Kuya Jak (Roberto’s) girlfriend. The last time was during the presscon for Cain at Abel (a GMA soap), especially when I saw Kuya Dong (Dantes) and Dennis (Trillo). I will be their leading lady.

• First time I realized that I am popular was when I went to the mall and almost everybody was calling my name. Sabi ko siguro nga sikat na ako, pero di pa rin pumapasok sa isipan ko. The last time was when Regal trusted me with the lead role in Wild & Free.

• First movie that I’ve seen was Bituing Walang Ningning, starring Ms. Sharon Cuneta. Pero I was too young then. The last one was a horror film The Nun.

• First time I forgot a loved one’s special occasion (such as a birthday) was…I can’t remember noon na may nakalimutan ako pero lately medyo nakaligtaan ko lang ‘yung kina mommy and my aunt dahil sa sobrang busy. Pero I made up for it naman. The last time…I always remember birthdays, thanks to social media.

• First time I felt “rejected” by somebody was when I was in high school. Crush ko siya. Pero rejected in the sense na hindi nya ako pinansin when I smiled at him. Para sa akin rejection na ‘yon. The last time? I can’t remember. Siguro that was the first and the last.

• First time I was betrayed by a friend was back in high school pa rin ito. My friend didn’t tell me na the school was entering me in an interschool pageant. Sa kanya ni-relay ang message to tell me because I was absent. It took a week bago ko nalaman with little preparations na for the pageant. Up to now, di ko alam kung bakit niya ginawa ’yon. The last time? None yet. Since then, I’ve been careful in trusting a person. I hope I won’t experience it again.

• First time I broke a promise was to my brother. Sabi ko hindi ko sya bibiguin when I joined showbiz. Pero there was a time noon na I just wanted to give up. Siguro I was too young then, very impatient at madaling sumuko. Until nag-kausap kami ni Kuya (Jak), okey na ngayon ‘yon. The last time? I now make sure not to break a promise.

• First time I prayed hard was when I joined a beauty pageant, Reyna ng Aliwan. It was an answered prayer. I gave a good fight and I finished first runner-up. The last time was last night lang. I prayed that my film would be a success.

• First time I experienced something traumatic was when I went home late at night after a taping for Enkantadia. Color coding ang car namin so I took a taxi. Mabilis ‘yung takbo at nabangga kami ng katabing truck. Good thing hindi kami nasaktan. There hasn’t been a last time.

• First thing I told Derrick before we shot our love scenes, “Come on, let’s do it and have fun!” The last thing I told Derrick (after the shoot), was “Uy, nagawa natin ng maganda. Parang pro!”
