MANILA, Philippines — She started as a sexy comedienne, and Angelica Jones Alarva rose to become the Honorable Angelica Jones Alarva, board member for the Third District of Laguna for three consecutive terms. For this, since her name was preceded by “honorable,” she had to change image.

“From being funny and kikay in showbiz, I became a public servant and it was a big change for me. Dapat maging kagalanggalang ako, honorable in every way — sa pananamit, sa pananalita, in my actions, in everything, di ba? It wasn’t easy to transform yourself, but I did it! I really learned a lot from my experience as a public servant and politician,” Angelica shared.

She had finished her third term as board member of Laguna, but she is busy as ever. Angelica may not be in politics anymore but she is still in the midst of public service, being the spokesperson of Kabayan Partylist and as personal consultant of Sen. Manny Pacquiao. “As Kabayan Partylist spokesperson, I coordinate with government offices like the DPWH and the Department of Agriculture because I am also involved in agricultural projects, aside from helping out in medical missions.”

Her time will even be consumed with more civic projects when she officially becomes the endorser of the NEXTGENeration Company, whose third anniversary was celebrated last Sept. 16, at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

Reynante Lascona, president of NEXTGEN Company, said, they are signing up Angelica as their brand ambassador because they share the same advocacy — organic farming! “Maliit pa ako, mahilig na ako magtanim ng gulay, and my mother naman loves to plant flowering plays,” Angelica said. She revealed that she met  Lascona at the office of Sen. Manny Pacquiao.

“If they want to get me as their endorser, who am I to refuse? After all, we share the same passion for preserving Mother Earth through organic farming.” Lascona explained that by organic farming, they will veer away from the traditional way of using chemicals and pesticides, but instead use the organic brands. “More expensively and challenging though because we import our technology — from Japan, Australia and Germany.”

As to her showbiz career, Angelica said she has a pending offer to do a teleserye which she is looking forward to. “I can do away with three days taping; the rest of the week I can spend for my advocacies and civic work.”
