Celebs remind fellow artists to be responsible voters

Philstar.com

MANILA, Philippines — Some celebrities called other celebrities to be models of responsible voters to the public.

Earlier today, Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla and Robin Padilla were criticized by netizens after photos of them showing their ballots on social media circulated online.

The Kapamilya love team are seen in the posts holding their ballots, while Robin showed a photo of his ballot on Instagram.

Aiza Seguerra, who like Robin is a vocal supporter of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, reminded other celebrities, “may responsibilidad tayo bilang mga artista. People look up to us.”

So Aiza reminded them not to wear clothes showing their allegiances.

“Bawal magsuot ng damit o ballers na nanduon ang pangalan ng kandidato niyo, or picture ng ballota (sic) with it. Please follow the rules guys," she said.

Aiza’s partner, Liza Diño, echoed her sentiment and said, “May responsibiliad tayo bilang artista upang ipakita na pare-pareho tayong lahat dito. You can easily decline to have pictures taken dahil alam naman nating bawal.”

I saw a Robin Padilla post with his filled up ballot and Mariel Padilla wearing a Duterte shirt. Awhile ago, Kathryn and Daniel draw flak for having pictures with their ballots. This "NO PHOTOS/SELFIES INSIDE THE PRECINCT" issue has been debated on throughout this whole campaign. Maraming botante ang umaalma dahil gusto nilang kuhanan ang kanilang mga balota for protection pero hindi pumayag ang COMELEC. May responsibiliad tayo bilang artista upang ipakita na pare-pareho tayong lahat dito. You can easily decline to have pictures taken dahil alam naman nating bawal. Sa kasalukuyan, maraming OFW ang iniimbestigahan at maaaring kasuhan dahil sa pagkuha ng litrato. Sino ang magpoprotekta sa kanila? Sana wag naman tayong maging unfair sa ating mga kababayan. No exceptions. No one is above the law. To the MEDIA people, taking pictures of artists and politicians with their voting receipts or ballots is a violation of the law . Or ngayon ba parang pwede na as long as hindi selfie? Dahil dito ang dami ng loopholes bigla dahil vague ang rules. COMELEC should release an advisory and be clearer with the supposed RULES. Kailangan klaro sa lahat dahil marami ang naaagrabyado. *COMELEC advisory photo taken from Philippine Star

“No exceptions. No one is above the law,” she added.

Even the daughter of Robin, Kylie Padilla, called the attention of other celebrities to follow election rules.

On her Twitter post she said, “No excuses. Discipline. It’s quite simple. But it’s so hard for us. [Come on]. We want change. We have to be the change.”

She also noted that their celebrity status cannot be recognized on voting day since “we are all just citizens."

"If we cannot follow simple rules today what hope do we have for the future. Medyo nakakalungkot po," she said.

She concluded her post, saying that giving celebrities who are given “special treatment” are being “unfair” to everyone.
