Luz Banzon Magsaysay: Well-loved First Lady

REMEMBER WHEN? - Danny Dolor - The Philippine Star

Ramon Magsaysay was the most loved Philippine President, the Man of the Masses. His wife, Luz Banzon Magsaysay, was equally loved.

In the words of a magazine writer, ‘Mrs. Magsaysay has a warm, sincere nature that captivates people. In her public relations, she always thinks of the other fellow.’

As First Lady, Mrs. Magsaysay engaged in civic, charitable and social activities in her characteristic low-keyed ways.

When President Magsaysay died in a plane crash in the mid-’50s, she led a quiet life with her three children: Teresita (deceased), Mila and Jun.

Mrs. Magsaysay left behind a legacy of dignity, sincerity and decency in and out of the government. — RKC
