How Paolo 'cured' Lian's ovarian cyst

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -

Now it can be told: Paolo Contis actually “cured” Lian Paz by making her pregnant.

Here’s how, according to Paolo:

Lian was diagnosed to have a fist-sized cyst in her ovary and the doctor told her that she would have a hard time having a baby or, worse, not being able to have one at all after she turned 25 (she’s 22).

“We were given three choices,” said Paolo. “One, for her to have surgery pero puede rin daw tumubo uli ‘yung cyst; two, to have her ‘menopaused,’ meaning her menstrual period would be stopped by force for one year; or third, ito na nga, ‘yung fertility.”

Late last June after doing four pregnancy tests (strips can be bought in drugstores), Lian learned that she’s having a baby. The first person she told about it was her mommy and then she asked Paolo to go home posthaste because she had “something important” to tell him.

“I was shooting at that time,” said Paolo, “and I rushed home.”

Then, the sweethearts saw Paolo’s mom to tell her the good news. It was the first time for Lian to meet Paolo’s mom.

“Okay naman kami ng mommy ni Paolo,” said Lian who is still not comfortable calling her Mommy.

“Okay rin naman kami ng mommy ni Lian,” said Paolo.

Lian might give birth in March next year, hopefully right on Paolo’s birthday (the 23rd). By first week of November, they will know the baby’s gender when Lian undergoes an ultrasound. (Lian’s ovarian cyst has become smaller after she got pregnant.)

Any wedding plan?

“There is, definitely,” assured Paolo. “We’ll wait until our baby is old enough to walk and make him either the Bible-bearer or the ring-bearer, or the flower girl.”

Asked by Funfare how she felt about Lian’s pregnancy, Paolo’s ex-girlfriend Isabel Oli said, “I’m happy for them,” adding that she and Paolo haven’t seen nor talked to each other after they broke up last year. “I saw him (with Lian) during Yna (Asistio’s) recent debut but we were in opposite sides of the room.”

Isabel was mum, though, when asked how she would react if Paolo and Lian would get her as one of their child’s godparents.

“I don’t know,” said Isabel whose claim that she has remained close to Paolo’s mom was belied by Paolo.

“Actually,” clarified Paolo, “they are not. Isabel should stop saying in interviews that she and my mom have regular communication. Hindi sila close.”

Isabel said that she hasn’t found a new love but she’s dating a businessman from Cebu.

Abby Cruz after Paolo B.

Yes, there’s life after a broken romance.

Case in point: Abby Cruz.

After she broke up with Paolo Bediones, Abby has beautifully moved on.

“Work is the best therapy,” said Abby who is in the ABS-CBN teleserye Lovers in Paris, playing one of the mean girls (as Divine, best friend of Eunice, played by Assunta de Rossi).

“I’m having fun,” added Abby who split up with Paolo a few weeks after her failed second try in the Bb. Pilipinas pageant last March (she finished first runner-up the first time). “I auditioned for the role of Eunice but the director saw that I fit the Divine character better. I was advised to watch the original (Korean) version of Lovers in Paris before we started shooting.”

Abby has just finished shooting Cordillera (directed by Lito Mena), with Roi Vinzon as her leading man, and will start work soon on Tanglaw (directed by Buboy Tan), her launching movie which is the story of a teacher who becomes an OFW. She’ll also have her own show on Channel 9 under Solar TV.

And how’s life as a single(-again) girl?

“I’m happier, wiser and stronger,” Abby insisted. “Maybe I’ll be better off with a non-showbiz boyfriend.”

She and Paolo have remained friends.

“Will I agree to work with him? Why not? If there’s a good project for us.”
