MANILA, Philippines — Globe is ready to extend assistance to residents in Eastern Visayas, Bicol Region, Caraga and other areas threatened by Typhoon “Bising” as part of its intensified disaster preparedness campaign.

The telco also assures that its technical and support personnel are on call, as well as standby generators for use of its facilities.

Globe’s Libreng Tawag, Charging and WiFi services are set to be deployed in areas where the typhoon is seen to bring heavy rains and strong winds.

Bising, internationally known as “Surigae,” is forecast to intensify and reach its peak intensity between 195 and 205 kph on Sunday, according to the State Weather Bureau.

Globe is also providing free data access to the website of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) for Globe and TM customers as it reminded Filipinos in affected areas to always be prepared and make sure to tune into legitimate news sites and updates from authorities.

Globe advises affected residents to store enough food and water, prepare their flashlights with extra batteries, candles as well as first aid kits, and fully charge their phones, expect to receive SMS alerts from NDRRMC and to stay indoors.

In a bulletin issued 11 a.m. on Saturday, PAGASA said Bising has maximum sustained winds of up to 185 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center and gustiness of up to 230kph. Tropical cyclone winds of at least strong breeze to near gale in strength extend outward up to 550km from the center of the typhoon.

Bising is moving northwestward at 20kph over the Philippine Sea until Sunday afternoon or evening.
