Balancing the energy trilemma at EJAP forum

MANILA, Philippines — Representatives from the country’s energy regulators and private sector players will highlight the intersecting challenges of the Philippine power sector at the second energy forum of the Economic Journalists Association of the Philippines (EJAP) today at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) headquarters in Makati.

With the theme “State of Philippine Energy: Balancing the Energy Trilemma,” the forum will highlight obstacles and opportunities as the industry seeks a sustainable balance among three critical goals, namely, energy security, affordability and environmental sustainability.

Department of Energy Undersecretary Mylene Capongcol will discuss the agency’s strategic programs and policies designed to attract investments in the sector, emphasizing the government’s commitment to a just energy transition and the crucial need to develop more infrastructure to support the country’s growing power needs.

Energy Regulatory Commission chairman and CEO Francis Saturnino Juan will underscore the regulatory agency’s vital role in ensuring consumer protection while promoting a competitive and sustainable energy market.

SEC chairman Francis Lim will deliver his opening message on his office’s efforts to help boost investments in the energy sector.

Joining them in a panel discussion are representatives from the private sector: First Gen Corp., Aboitiz Power Corp. and San Miguel Corp.

Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc. is the silver sponsor for the forum, while PetroEnergy Resources Corp., PetroGreen Energy Corp., Manila Electric Co., Citicore Renewable Energy Corp., BDO Unibank Inc. and Semirara Mining and Power Corp. are the bronze sponsors.

Over 100 journalists, private sector representatives and government officials are expected to attend the forum.
